Nokia Expands Chip Manufacturers Base

Nokia is in the middle of internal reorganization process and plans to expand its chip supplier base in order to have a wider choice of producers and to refocus on other important issues.
The company will license STMicro to design and build 3G chips for its handsets. In addition, GSM, EDGE and WCDMA chips will be provided by manufacturers, such as Broadcom, Infineon and Texas Instruments.

Nokia Basketball Fans Service
August 9, 2007Nokia in association with International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is working on a new mobile service will allow basketball fans to access the latest news, scores and interviews on the go. The service will be accessible on any internet-enabled handset. The FIBA mobile content will also be available through the Nokia Video Center on the Nokia N95 .
In addition, Nokia plans to provide reporters with its N93i multimedia computers to record high quality video and capture photo, and upload it on the FIBA mobile websites.

Nokia Prism
August 7, 2007Nokia today unveiled the Prism collection, aimed at style-conscious consumers. The Prism collection consists of the Nokia 7900 Prism and the Nokia 7500 Prism, handsets which combine individual style and state-of-the-art technology. The two mobile models will be available in the third quarter of 2007 with an estimated retail price of EUR 400 for the Nokia 7900 Prism and EUR 210 for the Nokia 7500 Prism, before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia & Microsoft PlayReady DRM
August 7, 2007Microsoft has extended Nokia’s license to include Microsoft PlayReady in its future S60 and S40 mobile phones. PlayReady digital rights management technology allows users to easily transfer multimedia content between devices such as mobile phones and computers. The technology supports most standard media formats, and is fully compatible with previous Windows DRM content.
The first PlayReady-enabled devices will appear next year.

Nokia Opens Design Studio In India

The famous finnish cell phone maker Nokia had invested much in India already. And now Nokia is opening a new design studio in Bangalore.
According to Nokia’s representative:
The studio, also the company’s first anywhere in the world, will explore a range of design trends and themes, including detailed research into colour and material trends in India. It will also study use of mobiles for Internet in India and its implications for design, and examine innovative new features and uses for mobiles.
